Fairview's Mission Statement

Bruce Burris reads Fairview's Mission Statement on stage at SoundBox8, Oregon State University, May 2025.
The last page of an Oregon Department of Human Services pamphlet, revised by the Community Liaison Office/Volunteer Services, published in 1993 by Oregon Human Resources, and titled, Fairview Training Center: History in the Making, contains a black and white text box framing a mission statement, or what is called, Fairview’s Mission Statement.

We keep circling back to this question: Who and what was this statement for? What is a mission statement supposed to communicate, and to whom?

One important aspect of this project is to invite artists to work with the remaining archival material, to open up the well of packed away voices and reminders to offer unique perspectives and interpretations.

What meanings do we find when we begin to read and re-read, read aloud, perform, emphasize, and recreate the Fairview Mission Statement? Artists are invited to interpret Fairview's Mission Statement in whatever ways we feel compelled to.
